Who has the right to die?

“And from each man, too, I [the Lord] will demand an accounting for the life of his fellow man. ‘Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made man.’”  Genesis 9:5,6

The Terri Schindler-Schiavo case in Florida is a case where some want to starve (kill) a fellow human being.  For six days Terri was denied nutrition and hydration following a court ruling.  Thankfully the Florida congress passed “Terri’s Law” which allowed Governor Jeb Bush to issue an Executive Order allowing nutrition and hydration to be given.

Governer Jeb Bush said, "As I have said from the beginning, the state must protect every Floridian's right to life, and in so doing, err on the side of life. As Governor, I will continue to do just that. Nothing in Dr. Wolfson's report leads me to believe that Mrs. Schiavo should be deprived of her right to live."

Does anyone have the right to decide who dies? God is the only one with enough wisdom to make such decisions.  We would do well to follow God’s wisdom and not take the life of any human being who was created in His image.

The present debate of euthanasia is not whether we allow someone to die naturally when medical technology cannot stop the dying process, but whether we empower someone with the intent to cause the death of another.  God has not given us that right.  Even the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously agreed in 1997.  The high court ruled in Vacco v. Quill that there is no constitutional right to physician-assisted suicide.
